Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a merchant statement analysis or fee comparison?

A statement analysis allows you to compare your current payment processor’s pricing structure with Union to identify and understand potential savings and processing fees.

Is Union’s statement analysis tool free?

Yes, our statement analysis and savings estimates are free of charge.

Is the statement analysis secure and confidential?

Yes, Union’s statement analyses are secure and confidential. However, we do recommend omitting sensitive information like MID/SIN prior to uploading your statements.

How are payment processing fees generally determined by credit card processors?

Different companies charge for credit card processing in different ways. The
fees you pay to accept payments can depend on several factors, including:
- Pricing Model
- Card Distribution Pattern
- Method of Card Acceptance
- The Interchange & Card Brand Fees
- Your Business Industry
- Risk Profile

What cost structure does Union Payments utilize?

Since our inception, fair and transparent pricing has been central to our mission. Union utilizes a pricing model known as Interchange Plus pricing, which is widely recognized as the industry's most honest and cost-effective option, particularly beneficial for small to medium-sized enterprises.

What is Interchange Plus Pricing?

Interchange Plus pricing takes the wholesale cost of the transaction - or interchange rate - with the processing rate margin, and passes on the savings directly to our merchants.

Other pricing models, such as flat rate pricing, apply a uniform rate regardless of the transaction's actual cost, often resulting in a larger profit margin for the processor, which ultimately reduces your savings.

Learn more about Interchange Pricing

How is your interchange rate determined?

Interchange rates for card networks like Visa and Mastercard are set by the
card networks themselves along with the issuing banks. Every credit card
processor uses these identical interchange rates. To calculate this
foundational cost for each transaction, various factors are considered,
including:

- Card Brand: Whether it's Visa, Mastercard, or another network.
- Type of Payment Card: This includes credit, debit, or prepaid cards.
- Type of Business: The nature of the business accepting the card,
which can influence rates.
- Transaction Type: Whether it's an online, in-store, or card-not-present
transaction.
- Cost of Processing: The actual expense involved in processing each
transaction.
- Risk Factors: Considerations like potential fraud which can affect
fees.
- Consumer Rewards and Perks: The benefits offered to cardholders
which might increase the interchange fee.

Does Union offer high volume discounts for businesses processing large numbers of transactions?

Yes, Union offers discounts for high-volume businesses. The exact discount amount varies based on your business needs and the volume of transactions you process. For more information, please contact our team.

How do Union’s rates compare to Square's?

Union uses an Interchange Plus pricing model, whereas Square charges users a flat rate. Our pricing models gives our merchants access to transparent pricing with no hidden fees while passing on the savings of lower interchange rates instead of charging a flat rate and a large margin. However, if any of our clients insist on a flat rate cost structure, our flat rate pricing starts at 2.39% + 8 cents which will still provide savings in comparison to Square at 2.6% + 10 cents.

Are there any setup fees to use Union's services?

No, there are no setup fees for switching to Union.

Does Union charge equipment leasing fees?

No, Union does not lease equipment; in fact, we advise businesses against leasing from other providers. Instead, we provide affordable equipment and accessory options. Some clients qualify for free equipment, while others can purchase directly from us at competitive prices, thus avoiding the expense of leases and contracts.

Is there a fee for providing a refund to a customer?

Unlike many of our competitors, Union does not charge an additional fee for
refunds. However, please note that we cannot refund the processing fees
associated with the original transaction. To avoid paying processing fees for
same-day refunds, you can void the original transaction before closing your
batch instead of issuing a separate refund.
